ROSEMEAD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 1, 2005--For the second
time this year, and the eighth time in three years, Southern
California Edison (SCE) today issued a competitive Request for Offers
(RFO) for new power contracts with independent generators and
marketers. The RFO seeks agreements of up to 56 months in duration
that will enhance the electricity supply certainty for the 13 million
southern Californians the utility serves.
Contracts being sought include dispatchable unit-contingent
tolling agreements, non-dispatchable qualifying facilities resources,
unit dispatch call options, and daily call options from existing or
newly constructed resources.
RFO documents are publicly available at www.sce.com/allsourceRFO.
"We believe an open, fair, and transparent solicitation for power
from independent suppliers is one of the most effective ways to
complement our existing power portfolio and assure future service
reliability for our customers," said Pedro Pizarro, SCE's senior vice
president of power procurement.
Because SCE functions in a competitive market, the utility does
not make public the amount of power sought in a competitive
solicitation such as this, nor does it reveal pricing information.
On June 30, 2005, the California Public Utilities Commission
approved six new long-term renewable power contracts resulting from
SCE's most recent renewable RFO. The contracts will add between 141
megawatts and 427 megawatts of environmentally friendly power
generation to SCE's nation-leading portfolio of renewable power. The
utility anticipates launching yet another renewable solicitation later
this summer.
